When an animal suffers because humans are unkind, Oscar’s Place steps in. While we’re just a team of everyday individuals, we deeply care for and are committed to providing a safe haven for donkeys in need.
We love animals, and quite frankly, we need to team up with other people who also care about what happens to these beautiful creatures.
The good news is that it doesn’t take much to make a big difference.
It is estimated that over the next five years, half the world’s donkey population will be wiped out.

For more than 6,000 years donkeys have partnered with humans to make our burdens lighter. But today, the world’s donkey population is declining at a concerning rate. Many of these animals are abused or destroyed for their hides.
At Oscar’s Place, we’re committed to doing what we can to protect these gentle creatures and any donations made in the month of October will be matched, so your help goes even further!
Our Story
When an animal suffers because humans are unkind, Oscar’s Place steps in. While we’re just a team of everyday individuals, we deeply care for and are committed to providing a safe haven for farm animals in need.
Our current focus is on donkeys because the world's donkey population is being decimated. Not by disease, global warming, or predators. But because there is a high demand for donkey hides in the creation of a traditional Chinese medicine.
Donkeys are some of the most loving and trusting creatures on Earth. They deserve better than to be abused, crowded into horrifying transport containers, and shipped off to slaughter factories.
We love animals, and quite frankly, we need to team up with other people who also care about what happens to these beautiful creatures.
The good news is that it doesn’t take much to make a big difference.
When you make a donation, you help a donkey recover emotionally and physically from its abuse. You are restoring their belief in humans as caretakers. Your impact even makes it possible to rehome donkeys to carefully-screened adopters, which enables us to bring more of these precious animals into our care system.
Again, we’re not special, but our team consists of caring employees, volunteers, veterinarians, and farriers – all with a singular objective: to help donkeys recover physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Every person on-site is committed to hands-on interaction with every donkey, every day. Loving them. Calming them. Healing them. We want to show them that humans can be good.

I had the opportunity to visit with a friend and we volunteered a few days at Oscar’s Place. I am a breast lymphoma survivor 2021 and it was an amazingly healing place. I learned so much about the donkeys those few days I visited. They each have new names and survivor stories of there own. Wonderful sanctuary, hoping to visit again soon!

We arrived at Oscar's Place last Friday morning to help in whichever way we could, including "shoveling poop" if we needed to. Ron greeted us and told us the most important thing for us to do would be to just BE with the donkeys, brush them and give them treats. What followed was a 5 hour love fest that felt like 5 minutes. These creatures are so sweet and full of love, I didn't want to leave! The staff was helpful and knowledge-able too, but mostly they let us be.

Phil, Ron, and their amazing team are pulling out all of the stops to create a great environment for these incredible, smart, loving, and social animals, who would otherwise have been sold by the pound, and senselessly killed.
